U.S. Border Patrol agents working in Maine are being reassigned to the country's southern border with Mexico, due to a massive influx of migrants.
The Border Patrol currently operates six stations overseeing more than 20 land crossings along Maine's border with Canada, including four that border New Brunswick communities.
There have not been any asylum claims or interceptions by the RCMP at the Maine-New Brunswick border in 2019, 2020, and so far in 2021.
Last month, U.S. Customs and Border Protection took in more than 18,800 unaccompanied minors, far more than the previous one-month high of 11,861 in May 2019.
