Local governments and local service districts will receive $75.6 million in community funding and equalization grants from the provincial government in 2022 to support their service needs and priorities.

Local governments will receive an equalization component of $53.2 million with a core funding component of $13.6 million.

Local service districts will receive core funding of about $2.6 million and a police equalization component of almost $4.4 million.

The funding assists each municipality, regardless of where it is located, to provide a comparable level of service at a comparable tax rate.

The community funding and equalization grant formula also includes a calculation for policing costs for local governments served by the RCMP under the Provincial Police Service Agreement.

Miramichi is set to receive nearly $7,000,000 in total funding, and Blackville is set to receive almost $230,000.

Most property owners started receiving their property assessment notices for 2022 on Oct. 1. Last year was the first year these assessments were issued separately from their property tax (bills) notices.
