Information about current wait times at the province's ERs may soon be posted online.

The Department of Health has started posting wait times on large displays in some of the province's hospitals, and deputy minister Heidi Liston said this information could eventually be posted online.

Having this information publicly available could allow patients to opt to seek quicker medical attention elsewhere rather than going to a hospital.

In January, the Department of Health estimated that if patients could get in sooner, 60 per cent of people visiting emergency departments could instead be treated in a community health setting.
