Valerie Fitzpatrick, a nurse from South Nelson, is now the second woman to enter the race for the Liberal party's nomination in the riding of Southwest Miramichi-Bay du Vin, ahead of the June 20th byelection.
While Fitzpatrick does not have any political experience, she has held various positions in the health-care sector. She says her experience in those roles has prepared her for the chance to become an MLA.
Hannah Johnston, a Doaktown resident who spent six years working for former MP Pat Finnigan, announced her candidacy last month.
Johnston studied political science and French at St. Thomas University, and has held roles in all three levels of government. She currently serves as economic development coordinator for the village of Minto.
A virtual convention for the riding is taking place on April 9th.
