According to newly released census data from Statistics Canada, over 124,000 New Brunswickers are expected to retire over the next 10 years.

25.6 per cent of the province's working age population is between the ages of 55 and 64, and Stats Canada says the number of people nearing retirement has never been so high.

Conversely, the number of New Brunswickers aged 15 to 24, the ages at which individuals typically enter the job market, is 81,215, over 43,000 less than the number of people reaching retirement age in the province.

Nationally, 21.8 per cent of working age Canadians are aged 55 to 64.
