The Adopt a Highway roadside cleanup program has been reinstated for the last four years, but according to the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure, participation has been limited to the Miramichi area.

10 groups or organizations are currently participating in the program, and all 10 are in the department's Miramichi district. Jeremy Trevors, spokesperson for the department said "there were others located across the province who expressed interest, however interest has dipped since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic."

The Adopt a Highway program was reinstated in 2018 by the former Gallant government after a nine-year hiatus. The program allows participating groups or organizations to get equipment from the department's six district garages, and help cleanup provincially designated highways.
