British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has announced his resignation, after his latest ethics scandal caused more than 50 ministers to resign from office.

The party will now choose a new leader, who will also be the country’s next prime minister. Johnson said he will stay in office until the election process concludes.

The 58 year old remained in power for almost three years, despite allegations that he misled Parliament about government office parties during COVID-19 lockdowns, that he was too close to party donors, and that he protected party supporters from bullying and corruption allegations.

The most recent scandal involved Chris Pincher, a Conservative lawmaker that Johnson promoted to a senior position in government, despite knowing about sexual misconduct allegations made against him.
