Federal Holiday Announced to Mark Queen’s Funeral on Sept. 19

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has announced that Monday, September 19, will be a one-time federal holiday to mark the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II.
This announcement means that employees in federally regulated sectors, including banks, radio stations, telecommunications companies, and postal services will have the day off to honour the late monarch.
The provincial government has also announced that New Brunswick will be observing the National Day of Mourning, meaning government offices and schools in the province will be closed on Monday.
In New Brunswick, the day will be treated as any other holiday for management and non-union employees in Parts I, II and III of the provincial public service. This includes central government departments and agencies, as well as the anglophone and francophone public school systems. Collective agreement terms and conditions for holidays will apply to unionized employees in Parts I, II and III. While government offices and public schools will be closed, this holiday will be optional for private sector businesses and employers.
