Janice Leahy has been appointed as the acting Auditor General of New Brunswick.

Her appointment is effective today. Leahy is performing the duties while an independent process selects a replacement for Kim Adair-MacPherson, who recently announced her resignation effective April 30. Adair-MacPherson was appointed auditor general in 2010 for a 10-year term. In June 2020, her term was extended for up to a year effective Dec. 1, 2020.

Leahy has been the deputy auditor general since 2011 and has 28 years of experience in public accounting. She holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of New Brunswick, a Chartered Professional Accountant designation, a Chartered Accountant designation and a Certified Internal Auditor designation.

The Auditor General of New Brunswick is an independent office that serves the legislative assembly. The auditor general assists the legislative assembly in holding government accountable by reporting on its performance and stewardship of public funds and resources. The findings of the auditor general are issued in an annual report to the legislative assembly and through appearances before the standing committee on public accounts.
