Miramichi engineering director Darren Row says the city is planning several measures to help alleviate traffic issues on the King George Highway when the Centennial Bridge is closed for repairs this spring.

Row says traffic lights on the King George Highway will be synchronized for traffic in the coming months. The city will also impose a ban on stopping, parking, or unloading on the street during the closure. Yard sales at homes on the King George Highway will also be prohibited during this time.

The Department of Transportation and Infrastructure has advised the city that the Centennial Bridge closure will begin on May 1. The closure is expected to last three months, but could end up taking longer depending on how the work goes. Full closures of the bridge are also planned for 2024 and 2025.
