City Planning to Demolish Lindon Recreation Centre

The Lindon Recreation Centre could be torn down next year, as city council will be voting on demolishing the facility as part of its 2023 general capital budget.
$160,000 has been set aside in the proposed capital budget to decommission and demolish the recreation centre, a move that is being recommended by city staff.
City manager Mike Noel said the facility costs roughly $140,000 annually to operate, and only generates about $20,000 per year in facility rentals.
Noel said an architects’ study from 2014 estimated the costs to bring the Lindon Rec Centre to modern standards would cost $900,000, and that inflation has likely increased that price tag.
The Lindon Rec Centre is one of the facilities that would be replaced by the $58-million dollar multiplex that has been proposed for the city. The multiplex would also replace the Lord Beaverbrook Arena, the Golden Hawk Recreation Centre, and the MVHS indoor pool.
