A vacant building in downtown Newcastle will soon be demolished.
City council unanimously voted to award a nearly $30,000 contract to Goodfellow’s Trucking to demolish the building at 312 Pleasant Street, under the dangerous and unsightly premises bylaw.
According to city clerk Rhonda Ripley, the Miramichi Fire Department’s fire prevention officers have deemed the building to be abandoned, dangerous, and a significant fire risk.
Council also voted unanimously to allow the Clerk’s department to have the city reimbursed by the provincial government for the demolition, and to start collection efforts.
