As of November 25th, the Miramichi region of New Brunswick, also known as zone 7, had the third-highest COVID-19 case count per capita in Canada, at 244.3 cases per 100,000 people. The only other regions of the country with higher per capita case counts were Nunavik, Quebec, and the Yukon regions.

The data was compiled by statistician Bill Comeau.

Miramichi Mayor Adam Lordon called on Miramichi residents to continue to be diligent. He said "We know people are fatigued with the pandemic and with following the rules, but we find ourselves in a moment where we all need to have a gut check moment and recommit ourselves to being very vigilant about following guidelines."

Miramichi MLA Michelle Conroy said the numbers are both concerning and surprising, and said she hopes people will continue to work together to bring case numbers down in the area.
