Patrick Brown has been disqualified from the federal conservative leadership race, over allegations that his campaign violated election financing rules.

A statement was released by Ian Brodie, the chair of the Leadership Election Organizing Committee, saying the party received serious allegations of wrongdoing by the Patrick Brown campaign. The party will be sharing the information it has gathered on the allegations with Elections Canada, who is responsible for ensuring compliance with, and enforcement of, the Canada Elections Act.

The decision to disqualify Brown from the leadership race was made following an 11-6 vote of members of the Leadership Election Organizing Committee.

Ballot packages have already started to be sent to the approximately 675,000 members that are eligible to vote in the election, meaning that Brown’s name will still appear on the ballot.
