According to the most recent Statistics Canada retail data, vegetable oil has seen the largest year-over-year price increase of any grocery product.

A three-litre container of vegetable oil increase in cost from $8.45 to $12.01, a $3.56 increase.

Overall, grocery prices rose at an annual pace of 11.4 per cent in September, the fastest grocery price increase since 1981.

Other grocery products that have seen significant price increases include chicken thighs, pears, mayonnaise, chicken breasts, and onions.

Loblaw, the largest grocery chain in Canada, announced that it is freezing the prices on its No Name branded products until the end of January 2023. Some critics say the move is a public relations stunt.
